The College

We are glad that you are taking the time to get acquainted with us. The University of Alabama in Huntsville has a lot to offer. We encourage you to come and visit our campus and the College of Nursing. Here are a few things you might like to know about us.

History

UAH is the only institution offering both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs in North Alabama. The UAH School of Nursing was established in 1971 and was designated a College of Nursing in 1987.

Clinical locations

We have contracts with more than 600 agencies in which our students can conduct their clinical rotations.

Resources for Nursing students:

The LRC (Learning Resource Center) is housed in the Nursing Building. It contains computers with internet access, printers, digital, photo, and video cameras, TV/VCR's, video library, Computer Assisted Testing programs, LRC computer lab physical assessment equipment such as ophthalmoscopes, reflex hammers, reference library, human models for learning and practicing skills, and much more. Every student gets an e-mail account and is assured computer access during LRC operating hours. There are various other locations on campus with computer labs for student use.

Library:

http://lib.uah.edu/ is a fine place to begin to see and read about the newly renovated Salmon Library. It hosts an extensive collection of periodicals, journals and books. Several computer labs are located in the library, one of them being for the Nursing students.

Accreditations

We are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and approved by the Alabama Board of Nursing. Recognition of excellence in teaching and practice by our faculty has been demonstrated in various ways: appointment by the Governor to the Alabama State Board of Nursing, the UAH Foundation's Excellence in Teaching Awards, and the Hartford Award for Excellence in Gerontologic Nursing. US News and World Report ranked our MSN program in the top 1/3 of similar programs in the nation.

Athletic facilities

A brand new fitness center awaits the full-time student at no cost. Indoor pool, basketball and volleyball courts, indoor running/walking track, weight room, cardiovascular center, aerobics, and more can be found in this facility. For more information see their web site.

Health services

The Wellness Center provides on-campus health care by a Certified Nurse Practitioner.
