Bachelor of Science in Nursing for Registered Nurses:

Specifically designed for Registered Nurses to obtain their BSN online. This program of study offers flexible options and opportunities for part-time study. Keeping the special needs of RNs in mind, the RN to BSN program is designed to meet the following criteria:

Students enrolled in the BSN for Registered Nurses program must meet the same lower division requirements as all other undergraduate students.

Lower Division: 60 Semester Hours

UAH participates in the Alabama Articulation Agreement with Alabama junior and community colleges. Students planning to transfer credits to UAH from one of these schools are encouraged to complete courses equivalent to those listed below.

Written Composition (6 semester hours)

English Composition I & II (6 semester hours)

Humanities and Fine Arts (12 semester hours)

Literature (3-6 semester hours) Students must complete a 6-semester-hour sequence in either literature or history with a minimum of 3 semester hours in the other discipline.
Ethics or Philosophy (3 semester hours)
Elective in Humanities and Fine Arts (3 semester hours) Fine Arts elective (3 semester hours)

Natural Sciences and Mathematics (23 semester hours)

Finite Math or Precalculus Algebra Mathematics (3 semester hours)
General Biology (4 semester hours) with lab
Chemistry (4 semester hours) with lab
Microbiology (4 semester hours) with lab
Anatomy and Physiology I & II (8 semester hours) with lab

History, Social and Behavioral Sciences (19 semester hours)

Introduction to Sociology (3 semester hours)
General Psychology (3 semester hours)
History (3-6 semester hours) Students must complete a 6-semester-hour sequence in either history or literature with a minimum of 3 semester hours in the other discipline.
Statistics (3-4 semester hours)
Human Growth and Development (3 semester hours)

Upper Division: 69 Semester Hours

Upper Division Courses: 37 Semester Hours

Credit for Previous Nursing Knowledge: 32 semester hours

Upon successful completion of NUR 410: Transition into Professional Role, 32 semester hours of nursing credits will be granted based on prior nursing knowledge and on previous academic work in basic nursing. These hours will appear as validated credit on the student's UAH transcript; a fee will be assessed for "Credit by Validation."
