Community Projects
Annual Health Fair
The College of Nursing presents the UAH Community Health Fair for faculty, staff, and students on November of each year. The advanced practice graduate nursing students focus on health promotion featuring health care through the lifespan. The undergraduate nursing students assist the graduate students in many screening services, such as, blood pressure checks, bone density tests, blood sugar testing, mini-mental screening tests, and cholesterol screening.
CHEERS
The project, known as CHEERS - Coalition for Health Enhancement of Elders and Referral Services - provides student participation in a real-life, grassroots community project as part of the educational experience and has become a model within the state and region.Let's Pretend Hospital
Let’s Pretend Hospital (LPH) is a program designed for first graders to help reduce the fear and anxiety they may experience if they must be hospitalized or visit the emergency room. The success of Let’s Pretend Hospital is the combined efforts of Huntsville Hospital Department of Volunteer Services, Nursing faculty, students, staff and many volunteers that participate year after year. We’re happy to say that LPH spans generations. Nursing students who visited as first graders are now performing skits. Teachers are returning who visited the hospital as first graders and volunteers are still returning who have seen both their children and grandchildren attend.
