RN to BSN Online Degree Program
- Earn the BSN degree online in one year (Fall, Spring, Summer)
- Remain with present employment
- Minimal Travel
- Thirty-two semester hours of validated nursing credits toward the BSN
UAH College of Nursing utilizes ANGEL for coursework completion. Online bulletin boards, simulated case studies, reading assignments, web searches, and online exams are all part of this quality education. The student communicates with the instructor primarily online through ANGEL and email.
Degree Requirements
In addition to lower division prerequisite courses (requirements) the ADN or diploma prepared registered nurse is granted 32 semester hours of nursing credits based on prior nursing knowledge and academic experience upon completion of a specific nursing course. In addition, 37 semester hours of coursework may be completed by the student in one calendar year (fall, spring and summer) to complete requirements for the degree.On-Campus Visits
- An orientation is provided on campus at the beginning of the fall semester allowing students to meet with their online instructors.
- One to two other campus visits may be scheduled during each semester as needed.
Clinical Component
The RN to BSN program includes one clinical course-Caring for Families, Aggregates and Populations. This unique clinical opportunity combines meeting individual learning goals with providing a meaningful service to homebound elderly clients. More than a thousand individuals have received benefits from this unique component, for which the program received a national award by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing by the Hartford Foundation. The clinical is completed in the spring semester and consists of 84 hours divided into three learning modules:- Sixty-six hours performing the service learning project, known as CHEERS-Coalition for Health Enhancement of Elders and Referral Services-a model within the state and region which provides students with the opportunity to participate in meaningful multidisciplinary community service. In collaboration with Areas on Aging agencies, the student assists homebound elders to maintain activities of independent living.
- Eight hours preparing and conducting a health education presentation in the student's area of residence.
- Ten hours in clinical observations directed toward the student's interest.
